Barangay Ginebra claims share of lead after dumping Phoenix


Barangay Ginebra claimed a share of the lead in the PBA bubble after dispatching Phoenix Super LPG, 86-71, in the elimination round of the Philippine Cup on Wednesday.

Both teams opened the game on an even footing, but the Gin Kings started pulling away in the second quarter, finishing the first half with a 47-36 cushion.

Ginebra maintained its lead throughout the game and even ballooned it to 21 points with under three minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Stanley Pringle paced the Gin Kings with 20 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while Prince Caperal had an all-around performance of 14 markers, 10 boards, and five dimes.

The Fuelmasters, meanwhile, leaned into the efforts of Jason Perkins who finished with 15 points, Matthew Wright who had 12, and Justin Chua who added 11.

With the win, Ginebra is now on top of the standings with a 4-0 card, tied with TNT Tropang Giga.

Phoenix, which now holds a 2-2 card, will play Magnolia on Friday. Ginebra will get its turn against the Hotshots on Sunday for the bubble iteration of “Manila Clasico.”
