Pacio back in training after failed title bid, vows to be better next fight

MANILA – One-time world titlechallenger Joshua Pacio of Baguio City’s Team Lakay is already back in training following his heartbreaking defeat against ONE strawweight champion Yoshitaka Naito this past Friday in Myanmar.

“After the fight, I just wanted to fight again. I went back to training right away because I want to work on the techniques that are still missing in my game,” Pacio told GMA News Online.

“Time is gold, I don’t want to waste time so that when I return [inside the cage] the fans will get to see an improved Joshua Pacio.”

The 20-year-old Pacio (8-1) fought the perfect fight for a couple of rounds but was submitted by the defending champion in round three after making a mistake.

Despite losing his first title bid, Pacio earned the respect of the mixed martial arts community for showcasing his impressive talent at such a young age. He is in high spirits after the fight as he aims to be a better fighter one day.

“My confidence went up after that championship experience. Of course I’m a bit unhappy because I felt I was near to getting it (the world title) but it was a huge experience,” said Pacio.

“My mood after the fight is just the normal me. I’m a much more hungrier fighter today but I’m not in a rush to fight for a world title again. I still have a lot to work on and polish, there’s so many things to learn so I’m not in a hurry.” — DVM, GMA News
